A little proposition from UDMod :)

Hey guys!

I'm a great fan of the map, and have a little proposition for you guys if you are interested

How would you feel about having your project hosted over at udmod.com? As a hosted project, you would be entitled to:

• Your own dedicated sub-forum, with moderator privileges for the development team.
  
• Custom branding for your sub-forum to distinguish it from the rest of the site, including a custom logo, header image and favicon.
  
• A yourproject.udmod.com domain to link people directly to your sub-forums.
  
• Support from our team who will be able to design you a professional loading screen and logo for your project.
  
• The ability to post map updates directly onto our home-page for better exposure.
  
• A banner for your project will be added to our top-left banner rotation to ensure all our visitors are aware of your project.
  
• Access to a friendly and active member base who can give lots of friendly and constructive feedback.

This is of course just an offer! No worries if you have other plans

Nope! We're just a fun-loving community who just like bringing gamers together UDMod and modding is a hobby of mine really, and I just like to help out I'm currently designing some logo's and a loading screen for Mineralz Evolution and would be happy to do the same for you guys should you choose to join us.

people were talkng about makng another site, but with sadface now having admin privileges, i really like this site

The only good reason imo to join their website is to promote growth. Really everything else seems to become worse if we join because of a lack of control from the ct community. With this forums we have more control. Plus cityoftempest.net is easier to remember than cityoftempest.udmod.com

If we wanted a snazzy logo I could do that.

it's cityoftempest.forumotion.com, cityoftempest.net is just a redirect and if I can contact the guy he can change that

I'll be up front with you guys At the moment, we're attempting to find an ideal ad-service that suits our site. Like any website, we try to cover our hosting costs somehow. We're short on donations at the moment, so an ad-service seemed the logical choice However, for the moment UDMod is currently ad-free.

The idea is to eventually have something similar to what you guys have here, with a single banner towards the top of the site. That said, we would never invest in any annoying pop-ups etc and will try and make these ads as subtle as possible.

Back to topic: The most important thing is accessibility imo, simple navigation and minimalistic layout is what I like most about this forum. However, the big member base is ofc a huge plus.

Thats no problem at all We can certainly set up those subdomains and make them link to the relevant areas of the site. Our current hosting package allows us to setup as many as we need. That said, they would only work like re-directs (e.g. a user types them in, then the URL changes to the page they link to).

Regarding the news posts, theres no limit on the number of articles you can post! News updates can be for official updates, or just to highlight map-related stuff like guides as you rightly said.

But yea! If you'd like to try having the project hosted on UDMod, thats no problem at all. If you decide it's not your cup of tea after a few days / weeks then your more than welcome to leave.

I have a few spare hours tonight and could set this up for you if you want to give it a try. Just let me know and I'll get things in motion

We have a few systems in place that block spam-bots. I'd imagine its this system that deems the username "LALA" as suspicous xD

I'd like it to be known that I (intentionally or not) started the thread with teh most Bm/troll in it.

I have no problems with the move but the main thing is, will the community move as well? It would be no fun if only I went and had no one to post to/comment on. It's pointless to have a forum without a community to back it.

We appear to have had a few instances where legitimate users are mis-diagnosed as bots

We're currently using an add-on which checks usernames, IP's and emails against an off-site database in order to prevent spam-bots from registering accounts.

I'm currently working on finding a better alternative as we seem to be blocking a fair few people recently. I'll keep you posted on that one!

In the meantime, I've been setting up accounts manually for people who are affected Just let me know the username and email you would like to use and I can create the account for you.

LALA, you should have discussed or at least told people more clearly about your thoughts. (prolly separate thread)

In my case I was just thinking of the UDMoD website merely as an alternative option, nothing else further,
since we were stabilizing ourselves in this forum (doesn't mean we like this forum 100%).
If you want the community to move the main forum, you could have expressed that more directly to us.

I don't know if this is something you should be disappointed to us,
since I sense a kind of miscommunication between you and who you are upset.
And I honestly don't know how this forum issue and patch stuff are co-related.
